MEET LANAE

LANAE JOHNSON
I am running for County Commission to ensure Jefferson County remains the place I chose as home over 15 years ago. I have devoted my life to serving my country and since retirement, I have transitioned to more actively serving my local community.
After school I joined the United States Air Force and served for eight years before joining the United States Army. During my 23 years in the Army, I held a variety of roles, including as a military police officer, commandant of a training school for enlisted recruits, secretary to the General Staff of the Army and Air Force, and the administrative officer for five generals. Not only did I see combat in Desert Storm and Desert Shield, but I also honed a wide variety of administrative and leadership skills including, human resources development, project management, physical resource management, strategic planning, and educational outreach. I retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
I then transitioned to civilian work and retired (again) from Fort Detrick where I was the Educational Outreach Program Manager. In this role my focus was to execute STEAM programming and training for area high school and college students utilizing the laboratory facilities maintained by the Department of Defense at Fort Detrick.
Transitioning from a busy work life to retirement left me with a desire to jump into civic and community service. I graduated from Leadership Jefferson in 2020 and have maintained a membership with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. By appointment of the County Commission, I served a term on the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission. Additionally, I serve as Finance Officer of the American Legion Green-Copeland Post, President of the Demory Farms Homeowners Association, and as a Director for the West Virginia NAACP.
In my spare time, I try to keep up with my ever energetic and enthusiastic mother, Elizabeth, and enjoy spending time with my daughter, Kamille, son-in-law, Seth, and my wonderful granddaughter Jayani. I’ve been known to play a round of golf, skeet shoot, and have appeared in shows at the Old Opera House.
My desire to serve you, my neighbors, as a County Commissioner is an extension of my lifetime of service and I hope you will place your trust in me for this vitally important role.
I humbly ask for your support and appreciate your time!
